Thriftwood - Essex County Scout Council County Headquarters & Training Centre
The county Headquarters and Training Centre is set within Thriftwood Campsite. The buildings are used for County Adult training courses for a fair number of weekends during the year. However, they are available for hire during bank holiday, school half term and summer holiday periods. If you would like to use one of the buildings on a normal weekend or even just an evening, ask, it may be possible.
The Headquarters buildings consist of the Main Training Centre - a hall of 60' x 30' with kitchen (fully fitted out), toilets, lobby and office. If used for overnight events, then sleeping will be in the Macfarlane Bunkhouse only (for 36). This contains six bedrooms, plus male and female toilets, and washrooms / showers with hot and cold water.
Also available is the Barcwood Complex. This consists of a small hall (24' x 16'), kitchen (fully fitted out), female, male and handicap toilets (all with hot and cold washing facilities), and a shower room. Four bedrooms are available to sleep 20.
The car park area takes 40 cars (if parked neatly!). There is a payphone in the centre. Hirers are advised to make arrangements to come and visit the buildings prior to use to look over the facilities, etc.
