Rain Fails To Ruin GIGA Camp 2011

Scouts and Guides from all over Essex descended upon Skreens Park Activity Centre this weekend for the latest iteration of GiGa Camp.

A bi-annual favourite, the event saw more than 1,700 young boys and girls attending, pitching up on Friday 17 June and staying through to Sunday 19 June.

They passed the time by engaging in a wide range of scout activities, such as canoeing, climbing and archery, as well as various other challenges, including laser quest, inflatables, circus skills and Zorb Football.

And there was plenty of nightlife arranged to entertain the kids into the late hours, with a night of Karaoke on Friday, and a crowd-drawing GiGa's Got Talent contest the following evening.

Saturday drew to a close with a disco and a spectacular display from a team of local fire-breathers.

With so much going on, it was hard to notice the frequent heavy showers that failed to dampen the camp's spirits.

"The highlight has been seeing all the kids having fun with the range of activities we have on offer," said George Hughes, who helped organise one of the sub camps. "And that's despite the appalling weather. They've been determined to have fun."

"Everyone has helped each other out. The spirit of co-operation between participants is demonstrative of why scouting and guiding works so well."

As always, GiGa Camp was supported by hundreds of adult volunteers, performing all of the essential tasks needed to keep the event running. These ranged from maintenance, catering and first aid, to security and activity instructors.

THANK YOU FOR COMING.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
