General

Q1. I have a question about GiGA Camp?
A1. Have a look here in our FAQ’s and if you cant see an answer then email us

Q2. What time can we arrive?
A2. The camp officially opens to participants at 4:00pm on Friday 3rd July. Leaders can setup from 5:00pm on Thursday 2nd July and from 10:00am on Friday 3rd July when members of their sub-camp teams will be available to help them locate their camping site.

Q3. When do we register at camp?
A3. Registration will be open from 6.00pm to 9.00pm on Thursday 2nd July and from 4:00pm on Friday 3rd July.

Q4. What do we need for registration? A4. Please ensure that you hand in a medical form for each member of your group, including adults and any accompanying children.

Q5. What about fires?
A5. Sorry no open fires, only gas operated gas appliances.

Q6. Child Protection?
A6. All adults must adhere to the Scouts & Guide Association’s Child Protection Policies

Q7. Do Leaders need to come with Scouts or Guides?
A7. Yes, All young People must be accompanied by a Leader, but if your leader cannot make it you will need to arrange to come with another Troop or Unit.

Q8. Will I need to bring all my own equipment?
A8. Yes, Troops and Units will need to bring everything required for you to camp, including; tents, gas cookers and food etc.

Q9. Do we need to cater for ourselves?
A9. Yes each troop or Unit will be catering for themselves.

Q10. Can we camp where we like?
A10. No, we will have three sub-camps and each Troop or Unit will have a space allocated.

Q11. We want to camp with our friends?
A11. If there is a specific group you want to camp near or next to, some might be sharing equipment, you can let us know when you confirm your final numbers.

Q12. Some of my Troop or Unit want to book now, should I hold on until January to send it in?
A12. You can send us your booking now and if you need to amend it booking to add more just let us know.

Q13. I found two spelling mistakes on the flyer...
A13. Yeah we know some fool (Paul) got it wrong... :-)

Q14. Can I edit my booking once I've submitted it?
A14. Currently this part of the booking system is in development so if you need any changes made please email with details of your required change.

Q15. What about Photography & Video?
A15. We will be taking photographs, recording video and audio material during the Camp that will be used to promote the positive benefits of Scouting both online, in print and in the media. If you would rather we not take material of your youngster please contact us in writing and we can look at practical ways of making sure we don't take pictures of your child.

Costs

Q1. What are they?
A1. Participants - GiGA camp will cost £30 per Participant (Scout or Guide) but we have offered a discount of £5 for participants who book and send in their deposits by 31st January 2009.
Leaders – GiGA camp will cost £10 per leader

A1. Please ensure that you return your Nights Away Form (NAN) to your District Commissioner or District Nights Away Advisor Guide Specific

Q1. Do I need a Camp Licence to take my girls to Giga Camp?
A1. No but some camping experience would be good.

Q2. What guiding forms do I need to complete?
A2. An A/A form will need to be completed. Details of where to send it will follow later. Health and Consent Forms will also need to be completed. More details of these will follow later.

Latest Information

Arrivals

The Camp is open for participants to arrive from 4:00pm on Friday 2nd July. Leaders can arrive from 10:00 to set up their camps. Staff and Young Leaders (Staff) can arrive anytime from 10:00 on Friday 2nd July. Please note that staff catering is from Friday evening with a light supper.

Roads:
We have been given permission to use the eastern track access into Skreens. This is located 0.7 miles west from Roxwell on the Skreens Park Road. There will be signs on the road as well as security at the turn off. We ask that you approach the site from Roxwell so that any queues will not block the road.

From 16:00 until 22:00 on Friday 3rd July:

Vehicles arriving at Skreens for GiGA Camp will use the eastern track.
Vehicles departing the site will use the existing Skreens track

From 22:00 on Friday 3rd July until 12:00 Sunday 5th July:

Vehicles arriving and departing will use the existing Skreens track

Departures

From 12:00 Sunday 5th July

Vehicles arriving at Skreens for pickups from GiGA Camp will use the eastern track.
Vehicles departing the site will use the existing Skreens track

Setting Up

Thursday 2nd July
Groups, if they wish, may bring equipment to Skreens on Thursday 2nd July. But please note that you will not be able to set up your site until after 18:00 to allow the sub-camps to be marked out and allocated. Any equipment left overnight at Skreens is left at your own risk.

Friday 3rd July
Leaders can arrive from 10:00am onwards to set up ahead of your young people arriving in the evening. Vehicles will have limited access onto the sub-camps from 16:00 on Friday 3rd July and there will no vehicle access onto the sub-camps after 17:00. This final time may be changed due to safety on the day. If any groups will be arriving after 22:00 can you please notify us before hand. Participants may arrive from 16:00.

Registration

Registration will be open from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday 2nd July and from 16:00 on Friday 3rd July.
