A CD of 50 favourite campfire songs, recorded as part of a Sweden 2011 IST member's fund-raising efforts, has sold nearly 200 copies, with orders coming in from as far afield as Orkney and Australia! In order to attend the Jamboree, Becky - an Explorer Scout from Brentwood - has to raise over £1,000. To help her achieve this, she has created a CD of 50 campfire songs, both old and new, which have already proved to be very popular!
The CD can be ordered by post (the flyer is attatched to this article) at a cost of £5.50 inc P&P, or purchased directly from Thriftwood Scout Campsite's shop.
Becky has been involved in the movement since she was 6, and in 2007 was fortunate enough to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Chelmsford as a member of Essex West Unit. Becky said “I found the Jamboree such an incredible and addictive experience and was so excited to be selected as IST for Sweden – I can’t wait!”
The IST play a vital role in the running of a jamboree, tackling tasks from site maintenance to food distribution, and security to the running of activities. The IST is comprised of adults from across the world, and is a challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable experience.
If any other young people are fund-raising for events such as the Jamboree, and wish to have their event mentioned in Essex Plus, please add the details at www.essexscouts.org.uk/news |
