Following completion of the wood badge, all warranted adults must undertake an average of at least five hours ongoing learning (calculated over the period of the warrant).
Any leader who wishes to upgrade or confirm their knowledge by attendance on any Module will be welcome to do so. However ongoing learning is not all about training modules. The training team can offer additional training courses to improve scouting skills. perhaps you would like to know or brush up on basic scouting skills, or perhaps upgrade a camping permit and need some instruction. If there is a subject you would like covered and you think there will be sufficient interest then drop a line to training@essexscouts.org.uk or start a discussion on the forum.
On going learning is not just about scouting skills and could include all or any of the following:
- Additional modules from the adult training scheme as a refresher.
- Training from within the Association but outside the training scheme for example an activity assessor course.
- Training completed outside of Scouting, for example an evening class that provides new skills for use in scouting.
- An external qualification in a practical skill like archery.
- Undertaking a food hygiene course prior to taking young people to camp.
- completing a computer course in order to produce a group newsletter.
- Attending a workshop.
- Attending an information day or conference
- Reading about a skill in a magazine, trying out that skill and then teaching it to you people e.g. making Christmas cards.
Nothing is too big or too small to considered as ongoing learning providing that you put that learning into practice within the role that you undertake in the Scout Association.
Adults are required to keep a record of such training and a learning log has been created for this purpose, please see below.
