1. Can you tell me whether food is provided?
Food is not provided as part of the fee, you will need to camp and cater for yourselves. However, there will be a snack bar onsite serving hot and cold food, drink and sweets throughout the weekend.

2. Can leaders take part in activities?
Activities are intended specifically for the Explorer Scouts, but leaders are more than welcome to join in !

Leaders will be charged £10 to attend.

3. What sections is the event open to?
The event is open to the Explorer section and their leaders.

4. Can members of Guiding come to Wintac?
We hope to involve our friends in Guiding in Wintac in future years however considering that this year is our first time running the event, we need to find our feet first. We have therefore decided that this year's Wintac will only be open to Explorer Scouts. I'm sorry to disappoint you but I hope you can appreciate where we are coming from on this.

However if you and your other leaders (18+) would like to come along as adult staff you would be more than welcome. This would also give us the opportunity to explore options for involving Guiding in future and establish how this would work.

5. What should I do if I feel something is unsafe?
Please contact a member of the event staff at your earliest convenience and we will ensure that the matter is addressed.

6. Can we setup our camp before the weekend?
Sorry, no, the earliest you can arrive at Skreens Park is 5pm on Friday.

7. What happens if I do not book by the closing date?
There are still spaces available, but to guarantee your place get your bookings in asap.

8. Do you need help with the event?
Yes, we'd be very grateful for help at the event - both Explorer Scouts leaders helping out with manning activities, and those offering their general help to the event. Please email us on wintac@essexscouts.org.uk

9. Can I bring more participants on the day?
For event planning reasons, we do need to know beforehand how many are attending.

10. Do you have indoor accommodation available?
No, all participants will be camping - the buildings onsite are allocated to the staff team.

11. How do the activities work?
The campsite will be split into three groups - and will rota between the three activity sessions on Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon and Sunday Morning - sports competitions, onsite activities, and inflatables/circus skills and crafts.

12. Do we have to pay extra for any activities?
All activities are included in the camp fee

13. Will there be first aid facilities onsite?
Yes we will have a round-the-clock first aid provision available in the Leaman Building.

14. What about special needs groups, are all activities open to them?
Please approach the instructor on the activity who will then assess the suitability of the activity and provide additional support if required.

15. Will there be alternative activities in the event of wet weather?
Where it is safe to do so, all activities will continue in wet weather. Some activities will be inside, however all participants should bring waterproofs.

16. Will we be allocated a campsite on arrival?
Yes, we will be allocating groups to a camping area.

17. Will it be muddy?
If it rains, then Skreens Park can get wet and muddy - therefore we suggest that all campers should ensure they've got suitable clothing and footwear for inclement weather.

18. Is there an event t-shirt?
No, but you'll find an order form for our Essex Explorers clothing with the application forms.

19. What's the situation regarding Nights Away permits?
'Explorer Scouts will not be allowed to attend the event without an adult leader. We would prefer each unit or district contingent to have a minimum of 2 adults on their camp, one of whom must hold a current leader appointment, and one of whom must hold a nights away camping permit with the status of 'campsite'. If you feel this could be a problem or if you have any questions please email wintac@essexscouts.org.uk

20. How and when do I pay?
A minimum of £10 deposit per person is required with the initial booking.  The balance should be paid by 31st October.  If you are making a late booking or have a problem with this, please email us.  Payments should be in the form of cheques from unit / district bank accounts, made payable to 'Essex County Scout Council'.

21. But i'm not from Essex - can i still come?
Why of course you can.  As long as you are within the Explorer section, you are more than welcome to make a booking.

22. What is the cost for leaders?
The cost for leaders is £10 each.
