Becoming a digital first movement
Enabling us to transform the Scouts experience – it helps us produce tools and services for our volunteers, staff and young people which are easy, enjoyable and empowering.
A key pillar of transformation is to become a digital first, but not digital only, movement. Our digital strategy supports our members, grows our movement, and puts our people at the heart of what we do.
There are a set of 8 digital principles being built into the foundations of how we do things, they are:
- We put people at the heart of everything we do
- We are bold and open to change
- We create digital-first, responsive and accessible services
- We use data and insight to drive our decisions
- We measure, test and learn
- We engage, collaborate and partner
- We provide safe and secure services
- Our systems are flexible, sustainable and interoperable

Improving your digital skills
We’re moving into an increasingly digital world and it’s important we support our members to reap the benefits from the digital tools available to us. That may mean learning new skills or knowing where to look for sources of information.
To help our volunteers learn about, understand, and use digital tools, the Scouts website has a dedicated area that provides useful information and training:
Digital Skills
A new membership system
The transformation programme will see the introduction of a new Membership system. This will be accessible to all adult volunteers through a single sign on from scouts.org.uk web pages. It will incorporate the following three areas initially:
- Membership
- Learning
- Welcoming
The new system works based on a single, personal email address per user – therefore it may be necessary for some of our adult volunteers to change their e-mail address they use for Scouting. Those impacted will receive guidance during 2023 to remind and help them with this change.
We also need to ensure our current Compass records are up to date – not logged in for a while? Take the opportunity now to check your records, update anything that’s incorrect and ask for any inactive roles you may have to be closed. This will help ensure the information that transfers over is as good as it possibly can be.
