Trustee Board

Our Trustees work as a team to ensure that Scouting in Essex is run safely and legally.

The Board meets formally at least six times per year including an Annual General Meeting where new Trustees are formally appointed and the annual report and accounts is presented.

Paul Stennett
Trustee Board Chair

Paul is the Chair of the Trustee Board, a role that he’s held since 1996.

Karen Daykin
County Secretary

Karens’ involvement in scouting started in her teens as a Venture Scout, and she rejoined in 1998 when her son’s Beaver Colony needed help, Even though her son is now an adult, Karen is still here, supporting a number of roles in the County.

Karen is the County Secretary for the Trustee Board and also Manager for the County Administration Team. She is an active Beaver Scout Leader in Southend West and more recently, after completing her Explorer Leader Wood Badge as part of the NAA23 experience, Karen is supporting Explorers in the Castle Point District, She is also a member of the County Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team.

Megan Hoblin
County Treasurer

Megan joined the Trustee Board in 2024 and, as the County Treasurer, is responsible for all of the County’s finances.

Clair Willis
Trustee

Clair’s involvement in Scouting started as a teen and continued through to the end of Network and beyond. Clair continues to volunteer at Scout sites and has supported various events, until her first leadership role in 2023.

Part of the team who took Explorers to the US, Clair gained her wood badge to participate in NAA23. Now looking for a more regular local involvement, Clair brings her experience in the corporate world (public and private sectors) to the Trustee role.

Matt Edson
Trustee

Matt sits on the County Trustee Board, having done so since he was elected at the 2023 County AGM.

Matt has been active in Scouting since the day he could join Beavers, and has never quite found a way to leave ! Since turning eighteen, he has held a number of positions at Group, District, County and National levels.

Outside of Scouting, Matt is a Detective within the Crime and Public Protection Command of Essex Police, and is passionate about protecting people, keeping them safe and catching criminals!

Matt was granted membership of the Institute of Leadership in 2022.

Graham Monk
Trustee

Graham is the Team Leader for International Events and has overall responsibility for all County organised International Expeditions as well as the Visits Abroad Process. Graham is also a County Trustee

Graham has been involved as an adult in the movement since 1975 and has held various roles at Group, District and County Level and is currently the Group Lead Volunteer for East Tilbury Scout Group. Graham was awarded the Silver Wolf in 2016 for services to Scouting of the most exceptional nature

Paul Walker
Trustee

Paul is a County Trustee and lead volunteer for Skreens Park Scout Activity Centre and also Joint Chief of the Essex International Scout and Guide Jamboree having been involved with the event since 2004. Locally Paul is Assistant Group Scout Leader at 1st Danbury.

Paul was part of the 2007 World Jamboree Management Team in charge of designing and building the site at Hylands Park, He was an International Service Team member at the World Jamboree in Chile in 1999 and a Unit Leader at the World Jamboree in America in 2019. Paul is a Queen’s Scout and has been involved in Scouting all his life.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
