Belchamps Scout Centre is managed by Castle Point, Crouch Valley, Southend Estuary and Southend West districts. Located in Hawkwell, near Hockley, the site is made up of 30 acres of pasture and woodland, and is adjacent to 360 acres of public woodland.
There are over 20 campsites and 6 buildings to choose from, meaning the site is suitable for activities all year round. There are hot showers and toilet blocks with hot & cold water hand basins, as well as disabled facilities. The site also has a shop which stocks all scout uniform, books, record cards, gifts, souvenirs and sweets. It also carries various items of camping gear, including mugs, mini torches, whistles, compasses, mantles, and single gas burners. There is an industrial washing machine and tumble dryer available. Belchamps can also hire marquees, tables and chairs. Alternatively, you can hire a ready made campsite. Turn up, and find a marquee, cooking equipment, tables, chairs and patrol tents all ready for you.
The campsite has a resident manager and staff. First aid facilities are available on site and Southend Hospital has an emergency department. There is also a doctor in the village. London is just 50 minutes away by train and Southend 10 minutes, both with three trains an hour.
Six buildings are available, as well as the camping sites.
