Prances is owned and maintained by Maldon & East Essex District Scout Council, and is named after Edith Prance, who donated the land to the district in 1956. Based in the heart of Wickham Bishops, it is a small, easily accessible, friendly site.  There is plenty of room for campers and an excellent backwoods area for those that fancy sleeping under the stars.  The site is also suitable for Patrol Camps and the surrounding area is ideal for hiking and DofE groups.

The Peter Church Lodge is a large modern building with a hall, approx 9m x 12m, which you would be welcome to use with bed rolls or camp beds as a ‘Floor for the night’ .  The hall comprises a fully equipped kitchen with serving hatch into the main hall, Male, Female and Disabled toilet and shower facilities, and upstairs there is The Bill Meehan loft.  The loft  has 2 sofas and a couple of “Z” beds and combined with it’s own kitchenette, leaders could use this as a separate sleeping area to the young people in the main hall.  The Loft is also available to be booked on it’s own as a meeting area.

Campers also have the benefit of a purpose built toilet & shower block at the bottom of the site. With the advantage of having underfloor heating, it also provides excellent disabled facilities, including a wet room, and a utility room offering fridge and freezer.

Prances is staffed entirely by a volunteer work force and provides camping facilities, residential accommodation and adventurous activities to Scouts, Guides, Youth Clubs, Schools, Colleges, and any Youth Organisations.
