Our Jersey Royals Adventure

Date: 1st Aug 2023 Author: Scout Websites

At the end of July, 32 Explorer Scouts and 8 leaders from all over Essex set off to Jersey for a 9 day adventure.

They were part of the EsEx23 planned events for this summer. They had four training events for the young people which was an essential part of the experience and meant that by the time the Jersey Royals Explorer unit set off, they were already a fantastic team and and a great group of friends.

The weather was interesting: They endured two force-8 gales. One of which sadly stopped their day trip to St. Malo. The unit stayed indoors during the gale and shared bunkrooms and a hall floor with an Explorer contingent from Belfast and, in true scouting fashion, the adversity quickly forged new friendships between the groups. Jersey23 badges were gifted and tears shed when the unit left to come home.

The Unit’s activities included Blokarting, Coasteering, Surfing, paddleboarding, an awesome high ropes course and big swing. They explored the Jersey war tunnels, played crazy golf, did a sunset hike and lots more!

They came back with lifetime personal achievements , lifelong friends and probably some “Jamboree Blues”.

“Thank you to all the leaders, parents, supporters, fundraisers and to Essex Scouts for providing this wonderful opportunity.”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
