The Leaders Skills Weekend is an annual training weekend organised by the Youth Programme Team to give the leaders of Essex Scouts an opportunity to learn and develop skills that are not covered in the Scout Association core training modules. As well as giving you hands on experience with a new skill, we’ll show you how to then teach that skill to young people.
A wide range of sessions are on offer over the weekend and you can pick and choose to suit your needs. The event happens over a weekend but there is no minimum attendance requirement – you can attend for just one session, or bring your tent and spend the whole weekend with like minded leaders. And there’ll always be a campfire so that you can keep warm and chill out at the same time!
Sessions held in previous years include:
- Fire Lighting
- Using a map and compass
- Preparing a Route Card
- Micro Navigation
- Orienteering
- Tent Pitching
- Basic cooking on camp
- Mass Catering on a wood fire
- Simple Rope Work and knotting
- Pioneering
- Axe and Sawmanship
- Knifework
- Packing a Rucksack
- Tarp Shelters
