Each year Brentwood District hosts a Young Leader training weekend and adult leaders help run sessions and mentor groups – great for the young people and for the adults who volunteer to help.

From Friday 4th February 2011 to Sunday 6th February, Brentwood will be hosting a training weekend for Young Leaders from the whole county. About 40 young people will spend time at County HQ, Thriftwood considering programme planning, how to pass on their skills, challenging behaviour, special needs, running games and much more.

The sessions (which cover Modules B to J of the YL scheme) are a mixture of presentation and group sessions where 6 or 7 get together to discuss the topic and how it applies to the section they help with. This developing of their skills in a safe environment with the support of an adult leader is very valuable. It is also an excellent opportunity for the adult to learn from the YLs who often come up with thought provoking statements and brilliant ideas.

As we start to plan the course, we are looking for adults prepared to help lead a session, to work with a small group on Saturday or Sunday, to help organise entertainment for the Saturday night or to be the catering crew. Is your diary free for next February – good – so we hope to see you there!
