Essex Scouts wanted to share with you all a wonderful heart warming story about a community project that the Scouting and Guiding groups in Coggeshall have completed.

This year they thought that more people than ever would be lonely this Christmas. So they decided to run the Coggeshall Christmas Card Project.

The project  saw young people, their families and Leaders write and donate cards that were then sent out to elderly and vulnerable residents in Coggeshall and the surrounding villages. They received over 1,000 cards and most have now been delivered. 100 went to the Salvation Army to give out to elderly residents in Braintree with their Christmas meals. A couple of hundred went out to the care homes and sheltered housing homes in Coggeshall and surrounding villages. The rest  found their ways  to elderly and vulnerable residents nominated by any of the support groups, care workers, churches or our amazing Community Helpers.

The project was run solely by volunteers, who spent hours, organising, writing and delivering cards to combat the loneliness crisis we have in Britain. With special mentions to; Adam Edwards – Young Leader, Louise Edwards – GSL, Wendy Watts – Assistant GSL, Amy Edwards – Beaver Leader and Margaret Surrey – Guiding DC. Thank you to these Braintree District heroes.
