The Scouts of Essex can be proud of the support that members gave 60 years ago today during the excessive floods of the Essex Coast.

During the night of 31 January, members across Essex gave heroic support to the community during the period. On Canvey Island, boats and craft owned by local Sea Scouts were put to good use.

The Essex Scouts review of 1953 reported, “The Sea Scouts joined the other Scouts in mopping up after the waters had subsideA and also helped with sandbag filling”.
