The first stages of the implementation of the 2018 Vision were developed over the weekend at the National Scout Conference in Leicester, which was attended by 300 people from across the UK; including 100 young people.

Essex had 5 representatives at the weekend to give their views on all areas of the vision which drew on the key areas of a youth led movement, growth and quality culminating in understanding on how these will impact the movement and both the wider community and society as a whole.

Saturday was a full day of discussions and key note speeches to get ideas flowing. Key note speeches included; Justin King, CEO Sainsbury’s, who led us through his top ten tips for success and how they can relate to The Scout Association. Followed by a very inspiring speech by our new Scout Ambassador Phil Packer who shared his moving story and how he aims to help underprivileged young people in the UK. Many ideas were developed throughout the weekend, some more relevant to Essex than others and some which will be seen to be implemented sooner than others.

On Sunday morning 32 key areas were identified and then prioritised by each group as to what they felt were most important. It is important to remember that this the starting place for Vision 2018 and developments will be coming out over the coming weeks and months as to how we can implement our goals over the next 6 years.
