Safe Scouting Team

The Safe Scouting Team provides support to the County and acts as the primary point of contact for all Essex Scout issues relating to:

  • Data Protection and General Data Protection Regulations breaches
  • Complaints, disputes and mediation
  • Member welfare and wellbeing (in conjunction with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Team)
  • Monitor and analyse the County’s Health and Safety Reports and Near Miss Incidents, in order to identify common causes (Lessons Learned) for resolution
  • Working with both the Programme and Events Teams, to ensure appropriate Safeguarding and Safety provisions are taken in to consideration throughout event planning and delivery
  • Compliance Reporting (including mandatory training)

The Team also supports District Lead Volunteers with:

  • Support and advice on complaints and disputes at District level
  • A mediation service, as and when required, including actively mediating with specific cases and providing mediation training
  • Liaison with The Scout Association’s Safeguarding Team, to facilitate resolution of issues with live cases
  • Guidance on Health and Safety Legislation, for Districts and Scout Groups
  • Provide guidance to Districts on the implementation and monitoring of The Association’s Safety Policy.
  • Lead the implementation of the Safe Premises Audit
  • Offer practical guidance and assistance on Risk Assessments

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
