MegaCamp 2025: What a Weekend!
It’s been two weeks, and we’re still recovering from a fantastic weekend at Skreens Park, where we all made MegaCamp 2025 one to remember! The rain couldn’t dampen our spirits, and we sent 1600 Cubs’ home on Sunday afternoon thoroughly worn out but full of memories they’ll cherish for years to come.
The theme this year was dinosaurs, and we think it’s fair to say you all kicked it out the park! We saw some fantastic archways into camps – a shoutout to 1 st Rayleigh/6 th Rochford for their truly impressive gateway into camp, which won best overall – as well as the subcamp HQs, which were adorned in some truly great decorations.
But it wasn’t just the camps duly decorated in dinosaur themed-decorations – no, we saw some fantastic dinosaur costumes donned by Cubs and Cub leaders alike. Both Saturday and Sunday were jam-packed with activities for the Cubs to engage with, learn from and ultimately have fun with!
Sam, a group volunteer from 1st Gosfield Cubs, made it clear that their Cubs had a ball of a time on the activities: “They’ve really enjoyed the rifles, axe-throwing – all that kind of stuff. Climbing […] as well, just being outdoors.”
A 1st Aveley Cub added her “favourite activity [was] probably the inflatables!” They both also commented on the rain on Saturday night, with her saying: “It [the rain] was kind of relaxing on our tent, but when it started raining heavily, it was kind of annoying.”
Whilst the rain did make the campsite muddier, it couldn’t muddy our mood! For hundreds of Cubs, this was their first taste of County level events: they loved the sheer size of the camp and made many new friends.
Darren, Group Lead Volunteer from 1st Chelmsford, got involved as part of the MegaCamp staff team. He too sang the praises of MegaCamp, stating “it’s like a mini Jamboree for cubs.” He added he had been to MegaCamp previously, which he had enjoyed so much he returned for 2025. “I was here last time with some of my World Jamboree units, and we were just
staffing and helping on different activities, which the explorers actually love. It’s good to get the explorers in to help support the young people in Cubs.”
Such positive vibes were found across the camp – the slightly damp Saturday night (okay, maybe a tad more than slightly damp!) just made Mega camp 2025 even more adventurous and memorable.
All we know is, we can’t wait for 2028!
