Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Team

Scouting is an inclusive values-based movement promoting opportunity for all who share in our fundamentals. At Scouts, our main priority is to make sure that everyone, be that our young people or our volunteers, feel welcome and comfortable to take part.

Who we are?

Essex Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Team actively promote and support with a wide range of knowledge and skills. The team comprises of team members supporting in

  • Additional Needs,
  • LGBTQIA+,
  • Faiths and Beliefs,
  • Social and Digital Inclusion,
  • Equity and Diversity including Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Groups (BAME).
  • A Youth Section: We have youth team members within the team allowing opportunity for partnership working and forums allowing for the voice of the young people within Essex to be present and valued, embedding a youth shaped approach.

How we can support?

A key consideration in the work we undertake is the importance of working with the parents and carers of the young person. More information on this can be found: Working in partnership with Parents and Carers | Scouts. The focus of any consultation work is to promote opportunity for the needs of the individuals to be met in a safe, understanding and non-judgemental approach.

On a county level we work to support all teams in areas of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Developing a unified approach with enhanced knowledge and strategies. This encompasses the Volunteering and Development Team, Recruitment and Welcome and Training and Learning opportunities, Incident Management and Digital/ Public Relations.

The programme Team and all its branches, 4-13 and 14-24 Programme Support, Events, International, Archery, Water and Mountain.

We actively support at district, county and international events including Essex International Jamboree.

Working with District Lead Volunteer’s and or District Inclusion Lead’s we can support challenges faced within a myriad of settings developing their knowledge and skills.

Each situation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the most appropriate support is delivered efficiently.
